ABOUT

Joanna Stratton Roze — known by friends as ‘Jolie’ — is a fine art landscape and nature photographer. A graduate of Harvard and the Stanford Business School, she is the author of Pioneer Women: Voices from the Kansas Frontier, published by Simon & Schuster. The book won the 1981 Christopher Award and was a National Book Award nominee. Translated into German and Japanese, it continues to sell in both print and digital versions due to its timeless message.

Joanna was born and raised in Washington, DC, but her family roots were firmly planted in Kansas and the Pacific Northwest. Her photographs reflect a lifelong appreciation for the tall grass prairies of the Flint Hills and for the Olympic Mountains overlooking Puget Sound. Today, she travels in pursuit of adventure, artistic expression and the opportunity to photograph nature’s magnificence so that it may be appreciated by future generations.

Joanna currently is Vice Chair Photography Editor of the Garden Club of America’s quarterly magazine and is a photography judge for GCA programs nationwide. She has studied with renowned photographers David Ulrich, Sam Abell, Keron Psillas, Justin Reznick, Arthur Meyerson, and Brett Erickson, among others. She lives with her husband in the greater Seattle area.
